CADENCE, RUSSIAN OFFICIALS MARK MILESTONES AT MOSCOW INSTITUTE OF ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGY
One Year After Its Formal Launch, Curriculum for the Cadence-Sponsored Training Program is Complete; All Students From First Class Have Post-Graduation Job Offers
MOSCOW-Sept. 25, 2003-Officials with Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) today will join with Russian education and industry leaders to mark key milestones for a Cadence®-sponsored master’s program centered on analog/mixed-signal system-on-a-chip design at the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology (MIET). The event, to be held at MIET, will focus on progress made with the International Institute of Device and System Design, a program begun last year to develop curriculum for and train Russian engineering graduate students seeking a master’s in electrical engineering (MSEE).
MIET Rector Yuri Chaplygin and Spencer Clark, Cadence vice president and chief learning officer, will be among the officials offering remarks. Milestones achieved thus far include the following:
All 23 remaining students from the initial class are beginning their final term and are working in Russia as part of their study programs. All have post-graduation job offers.
The two-year, four-term MSEE curriculum in analog/mixed-signal design has been completed.
Twenty-seven students have been selected through a competitive process for the second class and began their first term on Sept. 1.
«I am very impressed with the progress our MIET program has made," said
Cadence President and CEO Ray Bingham. «Our collaboration with MIET and Mirantisis producing scores of exceptionally well-trained engineers who will enter Russia’s electronics industry and help build complex chips. This is good news for the students, good news for Russia’s high-tech companies and good news for the global electronics industry. We at Cadence are very proud to be part of this remarkable program.»
The foundational program is designed to benefit Russia’s high-tech industry and community by developing a continuous stream of master’s degree graduates highly knowledgeable in analog/mixed-signal design. The International Institute of Device and System Design — one of several global initiatives by Cadence and the second in Russia — offers 24 technical courses as part of a comprehensive two-year MSEE curriculum. Many of the students are expected to move on to positions with international technology companies operating in Russia.
The program is administered by Mirantis Inc., a Foster City, Calif., company. Cadence donated computer equipment and software licenses, funds instructor and student stipends, and provides technical guidance and training.
«Motorola has placed several students in internships, and we have been so pleased with their knowledge and skills that we plan to hire them following graduation," said Alexander Mitaenko, manager in Motorola Inc.'s Analog/Mixed-Signal Development Center, Russia. Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector established its first research lab in Moscow in 1995 and has been active in defining courses for the MIET analog/mixed-signal MSEE curriculum.
«Beyond benefiting companies like Motorola," Mitaenko said, «this joint effort by Cadence, Mirantis and MIET will help further boost Russia’s growing electronics industry.»
The training program at MIET is among many global investments Cadence is making in training and research facilities, including the Zhongguancun Cadence Software Institute of Technology in China. Separately from the MIET program, Mirantis provides technology development services for Cadence in Russia.
